“Personal Empowerment”
Achieving Individual and Departmental Excellence
By
Bennie L. Crane & Dr. Julian L. Williams

This book was written to demonstrate to supervisors and managers that Personal Empowerment can be used to create No fault Resolutions to Diversity Issues. They do not have sacrifice important relationships in order to carry out the responsibilities of their positions. This is the challenge facing many leaders and those that would be leaders. In this book I face these challenges directly with proven solutions.

"I am having a really difficult time supervising the members of my company because they are my friends and fishing buddies. I tend to overlook their faults and would rather do their work for them than to get into a hassle with them".

On page 55 the reader is given proven concepts and methods for creating win/win solutions for these kinds of issues.

Another concern of many organizations has to do with Affirmative Action and managing cultural diversity.

In this area I provide direction to no-fault resolution to these concerns and clear descriptions of proven methods of managing them.

Affirmative Action makes me uncomfortable as an officer of a growing department.

Read my response on page 50.

"What are acceptable or unacceptable accommodations to cultural diversity?"

On page 51, I begin my response with “In order to understand diversity we need go no farther than our own families.”

"Some members of my command are bitter after being passed over for promotion because of our department’s affirmative action program. How do I handle that problem?"

On page 53 give a detailed account of how I addressed a similar incident.

"How do I recognize a bias in myself?"

On page 54, I state that I don’t know of anyone that does not have a bias.  I go on to provide information on to avoid getting into trouble because of them.
